What Is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment for pregnant patients that focuses on the sacrum, pelvis, and uterine ligaments. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster and taught through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), it addresses sacral misalignment and round ligament tension that can restrict uterine space and fetal movement. It's not a baby-turning procedure, it removes pelvic interference so the baby can find optimal positioning naturally.
"The Webster Technique is defined by the ICPA as a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment with the goal of reducing the effects of sacral subluxation / SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is improved, facilitating optimal fetal positioning."

Things We Hear Often
Pregnancy Chiropractic FAQ
Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe at every trimester when performed by a provider trained in pregnancy-specific techniques. At Slainte, both Dr. Vin and Dr. Bridget are trained in the Webster Technique, which is specifically designed for pregnant patients. We use a special pregnancy pillow that allows you to lie face-down comfortably without any pressure on your abdomen.
What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment for pregnant moms that focuses on restoring balance to the sacrum and pelvis. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, it is used to reduce torsion in the uterine ligaments that can restrict fetal movement and positioning. It is not a baby-turning procedure, it creates the pelvic environment in which a baby can move into an optimal position on their own. Dr. Bridget is Webster Technique certified.
Can chiropractic help with back pain during pregnancy?
Yes. Lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, round ligament pain, and sciatica are among the most common pregnancy discomforts that respond well to chiropractic. As the uterus grows, the center of gravity shifts and puts new stress on the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joints. Gentle adjustments restore alignment and reduce the muscle guarding and nerve irritation that cause pain.
Can chiropractic help with baby positioning (breech)?
Chiropractic care does not manually reposition babies. However, the Webster Technique addresses sacral and pelvic imbalance that can restrict fetal movement, creating more space for the baby to move into an optimal position naturally. Many providers recommend Webster care between 28 and 36 weeks for moms with persistent malpositioning, in conjunction with other provider guidance.
How often should I see a chiropractor during pregnancy?
Care typically starts at twice a week and drops in frequency as your body responds. As a guideline, your visits with us should never be less frequent than your visits with your midwife or OB, so as their cadence increases through the third trimester, ours stays in step. We build a plan based on your specific scan findings and symptoms, and adjust it as your body changes.
